Unicoop Tirreno, one of the nine largest Coop cooperatives in Italy, wants to optimize the accuracy and quality of deliveries.
The role of vo-CE
vo-ce enters the field thanks to ToughTalk LXE technology. In just 45 days, operation is full. The project of order preparation through voice picking, carried out together with the CGS Consortium Company of Vercelli, which specializes in internal logistics services, was initially implemented in the Unicoop Tirreno Logistics Center in Vignale (LI). It was CGS itself that proposed a voice picking solution. The voice picking system consists of MX7 wireless computers equipped with vo-ce. The software is directly connected to the warehouse management application, which in turn operates on a Unix operating system, with access to Oracle databases. The radio-frequency infrastructure is based on Cisco Systems 1242 Access Points, equipped with 54Mbit/s Wi-Fi connection, prepared for future use of 5GHz communication. The warehouse management application, implemented by the Unicoop Tirreno Information Systems Department, uses modern Java programming technologies. This approach means that there is no need to implement middleware dedicated to managing voice terminals. In addition, the advantages of multimodality are exploited: there is flexibility on the use of terminals in relation to the ways in which the warehouse is organized.
